ABOUT

Miss Laura

I’ve wanted to teach since I was three years old.

It’s true! My Mom wrote in my baby book at age 3: “Laura loves to play school, she is always the teacher.” Since then, my passion to work with students has only grown!

Let’s catch you up…

At age 11 (1996) I started babysitting kids in the neighborhood. I would continue to babysit at a steady rate, often times, rotating between multiple families, up until 2020.

I completed practicum hours in college (2005-2007), working in four different classrooms within four different districts (as required). These classroom settings included Learning Resource classrooms as well as Self-Contained classrooms where students with developmental delays needed more support.

I completed student teaching in a Learning Resource classroom in the Fall of 2007 before graduating Summa Cum Laude that December with a Bachelors of Special Education.

After college, I wanted more hands on Self-Contained classroom experience so I hopped in a Preschool Self-Contained classroom as a Paraeducator for three and half years (2008-2011).

It was hard to let that beloved classroom go, but it was time to take my place as the lead teacher in a self-contained classroom. I worked in a Social, Communication, and Academics classroom, mostly geared towards students on the Autism Spectrum, in Scottsdale Unified School District for six years (2011-2017).

Working in the classroom, and meeting with families throughout the year, showed me where the holes were in the homes and my calling moved me into home support. So for the past six years (2017-present), I’ve been working in the homes to support families and their students, as well as taking those students out into the community. Some days I truly pinch myself, because I feel I must be dreaming. It’s hard to believe, after all these years, that I am living my dream life, working with students and their families to help them learn, grow, and achieve success within their homes and communities.
