Daily Living Tasks

Teaching small routines like brushing teeth, dressing, making the bed; Prepping small meals and snacks; Cleaning items by dusting, vacuuming and rinsing dishes or using a dishwasher as well as laundry; Creating and teaching independent work stations; Utilizing a planner/calendar system

Academics

Hands on learning through various teaching tools to help with specific academic goals. These can include: worksheets, books, manipulatives, toys, games, puzzles; Create folder & box tasks to support academic skills that are motivating for the client to work on; Work with functional math, reading and writing goals based on the developmental level of the child

Adding Structure

Provide visuals in the form of pictures and schedules to help teach routines and boundaries; Provide physical structure in the form of independent work systems, organizing items throughout the home, providing bins to show visual barriers (ex. Snack bin in pantry)

Basic Behavior Management

Strategies used include but are not limited to: First/Then, Choice boards, Token systems, Visual supports/Visual Schedule, Timers, Positive Reinforcement

Community Outings

Stores: Following a shopping list at the grocery store, Practicing walking through Target and NOT buying anything (accepting “no”), Interactions with cashiers and self-checkouts; Going to the Movies, Ice skating, Water Parks, community pools, KTR (trampoline park); Restaurants: going to restaurants and Starbucks and practicing ordering; Social interactions (meeting up with friends at Starbucks or restaurant); Checking out books at the library every two weeks; Setting up a workout routine at the YMCA; Accompanying families on bigger outings like the Arizona State Fair and Disneyland

Team Support

Help train a respite/habilitation provider to utilize schedules and structure through modeling to allow for smoother sessions ; Work alongside respite/habilitation provider during sessions to keep the child focused and on task and train respite/habilitation staff -Collaborate with many therapists (OT, PT, Music, Speech) by observing their sessions and carrying over their activities into my sessions. This will allow for more opportunities for the child to work on those skills. I will keep open lines of communication with therapists and in some instances have done the scheduling to alleviate items off the parent’s plates; Act as an advocate during ISP and IEP meetings, taking notes, asking questions and ensuring that the parent/guardians feel supported, heard, and safe during these meetings; Act a liaison between the home and school, keeping in contact with teachers and carrying over IEP goals into the home; Help the student transition back to school by supporting the student and the teacher; Set up team meetings between parents, all providers, and therapists to ensure everyone is on the same page and providing consistency for the child
